When the Big Wave Contest at Jaws got called off on Monday afternoon due to dangerous conditions, 14-year-old prodigy Ty Simpon-Kane headed out into the building surf on the back of Pe’ahi legend Darrick Doerner’s jetski. Using his uncle Kai Lenny’s tow board, the young ripper had a dream day when he got several bombs and one massive barrel over the course of the afternoon.
With mentors like those two, not to mention Ian Walsh, it’s no surprise that the Maui-bred supergrom is already turning heads on the big wave scene. He’s been paddling into Jaws for over a year now, but Monday was his first tow-in sesh and damn was it something.
