At the ripe age of 66, Clyde Aikau paddled out into Wamiea Bay to honor his late brother Eddie, who the event is named after. This would be the last professional big-wave surf comp that the youngest brother of Eddie would paddle in.
In this video, Clyde shares in ghastly detail, the injuries that he sustained while surfing on one of the largest days in the bay. With a destroyed shoulder, bum knee, and a thigh cramp, Aikau pushed through these setback to become the spiritual winner of the competition. This is a performance that will not be forgotten for years to come.
