Alex Yoder Ditches Bindings For Deep Pow

Next Up

Along with fellow Patagonia team rider Taro Tamai, Yoder has ditched the traditional pro snowboarding path in favor of surfing and riding super-deep powder. Since committing to this shift, the Jackson Hole native has been splitting his winters between Wyoming and Japan.

In a recent Terasu profile, Yoder talks about 'the other kind' of snowboarding progression–that is, adapting your riding to terrain. He suggests that taking a more creative approach to freeriding is a more sustainable way to snowboard than pursuing what other riders haven't done.

This season he joined the Japanese snow-surfing powderhounds from Gentem Stick and went bindingless in the Niseko backcountry.
