MAMMOTH LAKES, CA — New USAC National Champions were crowned last weekend at Mammoth Mountain Bike Park following plenty of dry, dusty action. The track was slightly different this year, with some rocks pulled and jumps added to make times faster. The speeds some racers carry is quite terrifying and with everyone turning up the speeds that tiny bit, there was plenty of carnage.

"The track here at Mammoth is dusty, dry, and you're rolling on marbles the entire time," said Ross McDonald of MTB Mania. "Touch the brakes and you go flying. Gwinny qualified first, but we all know he doesn't have brakes on his bike anyway."

Flats, crashes, and concussions took out many pro and junior riders, but Aaron Gwin dominated the field for pro men once again. Mikey Sylvestri felt right at home in the kitty litter and slid into second, with Luca shaw rounding out the top 3. Kevin Aiello and Logan Binggeli had clean runs and ended up 4th and 5th respectively.

Charlie Harrison also defended his #1 qualifying spot with a time only 8 seconds off of Aaron Gwin. The 15-16 National champ from last year, Andras Simon, had a crazy run to slot himself into a hot 2nd. Warren Kniss, your dual slalom National Jr. Champion rounded out the top 3.

Jill Kintner stomped the competition by 15 seconds to take her 15th national title for pro women. Jacqueline Thomas from Colorado took down the #2 spot, while Becky Gardner who has been training in Colorado ended up placing 3rd.
