KELLOGG, ID – Silver Mountain Bike Park will offer early-season riding on Memorial Day Weekend, a few weeks ahead of the previously announced June 13 opening date. The lift-served bike park, located just east of Coeur D'Alene in Kellogg, ID, plans a "sneak peek" of new features and trails with lifts running Saturday May 23 to Monday May 25.

Willy Bartlett, marketing coordinator for Silver Mountain, said he's "95 percent certain" the resort will be open for Memorial Day and expects the majority of the trail network to be rideable. Patchy snow lingers within the park boundaries leaving the possibility of a few trail closures.

Riders can check out a new handbuilt trail, Snaggletooth, which features exposed, rocky terrain transitioning into high-speed flow. Trail crews have also spruced up the popular lines, Hammer and Payday, for 2015. Hammer has been rerouted and updated with with handbuilt technical sections, big berms and jumps. Payday's facelift was less extensive, primarily overhauling berms.

Silver Mountain's official opening date remains Saturday, June 13. From Memorial Day through the end of June, the resort will run lifts on weekends only. The schedule will expand to seven-days for the first time in July.

May is still pre-season for many bike parks in the Northwest and elsewhere, so news of Silver Mountain's Memorial Day sneak preview is surely welcome for riders anxious for the spring dirt to bloom. Opening day for Whistler Mountain Bike Park is slated for May 2. Coast Gravity Park, a shuttle-serve operation in Sechelt, BC, is currently open for weekend riding.
