Ikon Pass partners with POW to Save Winter

With a volatile winter jeopardizing many of our ski resorts, the Alterra Mountain Company is ramping up the fight against climate change with their brand new Ikon Pass: In a press release Thursday, Alterra stated it will be creating the Ikon Pass Fund to help support Protect Our Winters (POW) in its fight against climate change.

As part of its three-level, $50,000 partnership with POW, each purchase of an Ikon Pass will include a $50 year-long membership to POW in addition to the creation of the Ikon Pass fund.

“The Ikon Pass Fund is a proactive response that helps connect snow sports enthusiasts to their passion in the midst of a changing climate,” Mario Molina, the Executive Director of Protect Our Winters, said in a press release. “With this unique partnership, the Ikon Pass is stepping off the sidelines to not only help support POW’s initiatives as a Summit Level sponsor, they will also be helping to draft unique opportunities to further POW’s leadership position on climate within the snow sports community.”

POW was established by snowboarder Jeremy Jones as a call of action to mobilize the outdoor community to preserve skiing and snowboarding for future generations. The organization will be receiving its first ever advocacy fund through the new pass, in which $25,000 will be used to support their pre-existing educational and political initiatives. The hope is that the involvement of Alterra will further encourage businesses, athletes, and the rest of the outdoor community to step up and speak out against the unprecedented change in our mountains.

“The time to make crucial and immediate climate action is here and the outdoor community has a unique opportunity to lead,” Jones said in the press release. “We are encouraged by our new partnership with the Ikon Pass and hope it inspires others to become engaged in an issue that has direct impacts on the mountains we all love.”
