Many of the best freeskiers in the world got their start on the icy slalom courses of their local mountains. These lanes of shitty snow and spandex is where they first learned the fundamentals that contributed to their eventually success in other forms of the sport.
This is true with freeskiing god Sage Cattabriga-Alosa. Recently he took a pair of of Atomic's new Backland 117 ski out of the sidecountry and into the slalom course. Getting props from the local racers, Sage turned the skis with ease, doing his best impression of Bode Miller. I have to be honest though, would much rather see this zen warrior charging the spines of AK, then the next Winter Olympics.
