In the waning light of the 60's a director named Al Cahil made a short film entitled "Escape to Jay", referring to Jay Peak in Northern Vermont. The video captures the wonder that was skiing in that time, when straight skis, sweaters, and the hot toddy dominated your day. It is a snapshot of what skiing was at one of New England's most challenging mountains.
As skis get fatter, lift lines longer, and powder turns sometimes an unrealistic plane ride away, it is useful to look back on videos like this. When skiing was all about exploring your own unfound place.
