Watch: Crafting the Perfect Turn in Japan

Next Up

Japan’s steep and deep lines of untracked snow have topped everyone’s destination list, resulting in a recent inundation of content produced from the Land of the Rising Sun. And while there will always be a special place in our hearts for the classic blower "Japow edit”, it’s eye-catching when a crew like Seeking Nirvana opts to challenge the norm as they did in their latest filmedit “The Lost Craftsmen."

The Seeking Nirvana crew highlights in their latest film how the Japanese have applied ages-old attention to detail to crafting the perfect turn. Seeking Nirvana Photo

Holistically approaching the ski film from Japan’s culture and history, they artfully weave a narrative focused on the correlation between snowsports and craftsmanship. The group of childhood ski buddies turned filmmakers—Riley Leboe, Joe Schuster, Matt Margetts and Mike Henitiuk—travel the world “together in search of Nirvana.”

No word on if the trip brought them to enlightenment, but through their pursuit they definitely found more than just snow. Watch and appreciate the 11-minute piece, where crafting a perfect turn is explored through Japan’s master artisans.
