Jackson, Wyoming native, Daneil Tisi, was our February Grom contest winner. What impressed us about Daniel was his souldful, big-mountain riding style that seemed years beyond his age, this kid can shred! Daniel was nice enough to answer a few questions for us about his past season.
How long have you been skiing?
My first time skiing was when I was 4 years old and enrolled in the Kids Ranch Locals program at JHMR.
Why do you enjoy skiing?
It's so fun. There are so many types of skiing I get to do...big mountain, park and pipe. It never gets boring!
Who are your ski heros?
Sammy Carlson, Dane Tudor, Sage CattabrigaAlosa, Chris Benchetler.
Who are your favorite people to ride with?
My brother and my other teammates on the JHMR Anomaly Team and my fellow competitors from Park City when we meet up at different ski resorts for USASA competitions.
How do you balance school and skiing?
I just do my work and get it all done...my parents say I can't ski if I don't get good grades. My winters are basically all school and skiing which is ok with me...no tv, no sleepovers, no computer. I hit the rail in my backyard if I need a break during the week. When I travel to competitions I get all my schoolwork ahead of time and have it all done by the time I get back so I don't fall behind. It can be hard at times because competing and training takes a lot of time but it has worked out very well for me so far.
What does it mean to you to have your video selected by TGR?
EVERYTHING! Thanks! It is fun to have my friends and people I don't know watch me skiing. I LOVE watching ski movies and all the edits of everyone else. It is also great because some of my teachers have watched my video and can see what I am doing when I am not in school.
What are your plans for the rest of the season? Are you working on more edits since you get one a month?
YES! I have more footage from my season and USASA Nationals that my older brother is going to help me put together. We really like to work on edits especially when it has to do with skiing! We still have lots of snow in Jackson so I want to go up Teton Pass and build a jump. In June I am going to a sleep away ski camp called Woodward at Copper Mountain. I get to hit the jumps on the mountain and practice new tricks on their airbag that they have set up on the hill. In the afternoon and night we get to practice in their big barn which has flybeds, foam pits, rails and snowflex.
