Surfmobile Powered by Food Waste, Manure, and Sewage

Next Up

Daniel Heliborn is a Swedish surfer who converted his old Volvo to run on biogas. Biogas is a fuel that is made from food waste, manure, sewage, green waste–basically any organic material that will rot. The gas is made when biomass waste is put in an airtight tank and left to decompose, releasing methane and carbon dioxide that can be used to fuel anything that uses a combustion engine. The technology has been around for a long time and is widely used in Sweden, Switzerland, and Germany. It has the potential to cut car emissions by 95% and because it's made from waste, it's more sustainable. We back anybody making the most to reduce the impact pursuing their passions has on the air, water, and land they depend on to make 'em happen.
